OUZO is a solely Greek distillate. The word OUZO can not be translated in another language. It is the traditional name of distilled liquor with the addition of aniseed, which is produced only in Greece.
The particular taste and aroma of this ideal alcoholic drink are due to some special plants that exist in abundance in the Greek nature and are used in its distillation. Each and every distiller has his own recipe, which is passed down from generation to generation and is kept as one of family secrets. The recipe’s success is due to the quality of the retort (Amvikas) and the singular mix and match of the aromatic plants.
Ouzo can be enjoyed at all hours; when diluted with water or ice cubes, its color changes and its aroma “floods” the senses. It’s enough to cool even the hottest Greek summer.Ouzo is an ideal accompaniment to all seafood and also, can be used in cooking, cake making as well as the main ingredient in some alcoholic cocktails.
